Once again, the time grown near for the best small Full Moon Bus Club sanctioned campout known as
We are excited to offer the return to our original and traditional site, Vanhoy Family Campground
Since we have last been there, Casey and crew have made some improvements to our traditional camping spot down yonder in the woods. There have been some changes to the coliseum area. It is now being used as a weekly rodeo site and so the lower showers are unavailable. The coliseum itself has fences and sand and probably the occasional horse patty.
There is no electric down in the hollar so if you need juice it best be orange or passion fruit.
The upper coliseum showers are available, as are the main showers at the upper camping area.
Arrangements have been made to move some plastic castles down to our camping area to enhance your camping experience.
But Mad Uncle Dave, how are we going to get there?
That's easy! Those of you who came to Oktoberbus in the early
years should remember how to get there. If you don;t, or have not
been there before, it's just 12 miles north of Statesville on I-77 at
Exit 65 and NC 901. We're about 300 yards off of I-77 on Jericho
Road. That's in North Carolina just in case you needed a bigger scope
of where to go.
But Mad Uncle Dave, what are we going to do once we get
there?
That's entirely up to you. There are trails to walk,
fields to go fly a kite in, friends old and new to hang out with.
There's an Amish village just down the road a piece to check out.
There may or may not be bonfires or a case burn. Pretty much what you
do is up to you as long as it does not involve anything illegal,
immoral, or lead to unnatural acts with the local fauna. I suppose
Flora won't mind but you might want to get her permission first!
But Mad Uncle Dave, it it a "wet" site?
Well
yes it is, especially after it rains.
But Mad Uncle Dave, what about partying?
If you want
to party down, that's just fine. The management asks that if you tend
to be loud late into the night that you camp in the 'hill area' on
the west side of the camping area. That's the area furthest from the
coliseum.
But Mad Uncle Dave, how much will all this fun
co$t?
Merely $5 per person per night. The true cost, like any
campout, is up to you, how much you spend on fuel, food, beverages,
recreation, alimony, treatment for STDs, chiropractic services,
WalMart runs, laundry, incidentals, orthodontic work, arborists,
rhinosaurusses and effelants is for you to decide.
But Mad Uncle Dave, what activities are planned?
Friday
night soup or stew fest (make a soup or stew to help feed folks as
they come in and don't want to cook in the dark while setting up)
would be appreciated. If you are willing to do this make a soup or
stew and I will provide a flag to mark your site as a 'host'. The
traditional Saturday morning burrito feast where everyone contributed
food, cooking, or cleanup is planned. A bonfire and announcements on
Saturday night. Since it IS the 10th anniversary of Oktoberbus it
might be appropriate to have Mr. Oktoberbus himself, Brad S, say a
few words. Nobody tell Brad about this though, I want it to be a
surprise!
But Mad Uncle Dave
Enough but's anything else you
might want to know either ask a many time veteran or e-mail me at
Oktoberbus@maduncledave.com.
